Here at Gower Coast Adventures we share a love for the Gower coastline, it's wildlife, and it's history.

With 15 years experience of navigating these waters, we know every cave, cove and bay, along with their intriguing stories.
We know where the seals will be snoozing, the porpoises feeding, and the sea birds nesting.

Passengers boarding the boat at Oxwich

Our passion for our local marine species and habitats brings with it a detailed knowledge of Gower's wildlife from where to look for dolphins, to which cliffs to scan for perching peregrines, and also a deep desire to protect it.

On every trip we combine sensitive wildlife observation with the thrill of feeling the sea breeze on your face as we glide across the water, and hope to convey our enthusiasm for our peninsula home with all our passengers.

Come and join us on an unforgettable adventure!

Rare leatherback turtle sighting!
We encountered a large leatherback turtle during one of our trips around Gower
Wednesday 28th August 2019

On the August bank holiday weekend we were incredibly amazed and priviledged to encounter a large leatherback turtle on one of our regular trips around the Gower coast.

Skipper Dave, guide Madi, and 12 passengers were on their way back from Worms Head and had headed a little further out to sea to search for porpoises or dolphins which we often see a little further offshore. Dave stopped the boat as he had spotted lots of big barrel jellyfish in the water, and whilst he and Madi were pointing them out to the passengers a dark shape appeared in the water nearby.

guillemots at worms head gower boat trip

Spring in the UK is a great time for wildlife encounters, and the Gower peninsula is no exception. Birds are preparing to raise chicks; mammals are more active, taking advantage of the warmer weather and long days; and as the ocean starts to warm up the sea algae blooms, attracting fish and bigger sea creatures to the area.

Atlantic grey seal pup

Atlantic grey seals have their pups during autumn and winter. Here in Wales pups start appearing along our coastlines from September onwards.

Mother seals give birth to just one pup a year. They are born on land with white fluffy fur, and stay out of the water for the first few weeks of their lives.

Read on to find out more about these enigmatic creatures and what to do if you discover a seal in need of help.

Our dolphins: wild and free as they should be
We've had fantastic dolphin sightings on our trips recently so it seemed apt that this next blog post explains more about these amazing animals and our joyful encounters with them.

common dolphin jumps alongside our boat on a trip to Worms Head Gower

It’s incredible how the presence of another species can make us humans so delighted and overwhelmed. But that’s exactly what dolphins do. It’s the most breath-taking feeling watching a dolphin swimming along next to you, looking into their eyes, and seeing them look back into yours, knowing there’s another intelligent being there.

We feel privileged that we get to encounter these spirited animals so often on our trips. Short-beaked common dolphins visit the Gower coast every year in the warmer months. Last year we saw them in every month from May to October. This year we got our first sightings in June and we’re still seeing them now. Sometimes we see small groups of 3 or 4 animals, other times we may encounter hundreds! The most common group size we see is around 20 individuals.

Gower Coast Adventures' terms and conditions:

 - You must book via our website, or phone us to check availability and to confirm your booking. No booking is confirmed until payment has been received.

- Our boat trips require a minimum number of passengers to proceed therefore we reserve the right to amend or cancel bookings.

 - If we need to cancel for weather or logistical reasons alternative dates will be arranged or a full refund will be offered. Our boat trips are dependent upon weather and sea conditions. Sometimes it is necessary to cancel a sailing due to less than favourable conditions. In this case your ticket / voucher will remain valid and you can book a place on a trip on another day or time, or take a refund.

 - If you need to cancel your booking, full refunds are given up to 48 hours before departure. If you give notice of less than 48 hours, then no refund may be given and vouchers will become invalid.

 - Life jackets are provided and must be worn aboard our vessel.

 - It is essential that you dress appropriately for your boat trip: wear warm clothing at any time of year as wind-chill means it is always colder at sea. A waterproof jacket is essential, we can provide these. Footwear (beach shoes) to get wet and protect your feet whilst walking in the shallow water on the beach must also be worn. In sunny weather protective cream and sunglasses are advised.

 - The skipper may refuse boarding if you are not appropriately dressed, no refund will be given and vouchers will become invalid.

 - A child passenger must be accompanied by an adult passenger. A child passenger is defined as being 15 years old or under at the time of booking. An adult is defined as being 16 years old and over.

 - The child price is limited to a maximum of 6 children per booking.

 - All children should be warmly dressed, they particularly feel the cold of the wind-chill as the boat speeds across the water.

 - You are responsible for your own conduct and that of your children.

 - You will be refused to board our vessel if intoxicated in any form, and offered no refund.

 - All passengers MUST arrive 30 minutes before the trip departure time. If you are late you will not receive a refund. It is solely the passengers responsibility to arrive at our booking office and check in on time. Gower traffic can be slow and congested, and Oxwich car park can get full in busy periods such as bank holidays. (Should you become late or have to queue to get into the car park please contact us and we will try to help).

 - Gower Coast Adventures use a 10 metre R.H.I.B. (Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat) powered by a reliable 315 hp inboard diesel engine with water jet propulsion. This powerful craft is certified to the stringent Code of Practice set by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency). We carry full safety equipment including up to date electronic navigational aids, flares, and a life raft.

 - You are in safe hands; our skipper is qualified and experienced with excellent local knowledge.

 - If the sea conditions are considered by the skipper to be unsuitable the trip will be postponed.

 - Boats can experience unpredictable movements that can aggravate existing medical conditions. You must inform us of medical conditions, disabilities or concerns for all passengers included in your booking (especially people with back/bone conditions, pregnant ladies, and those with reduced mobility). We will do our utmost to help and advise you but as we are not medical experts the decision as to whether to sail will be entirely at your risk. In certain circumstances the skipper may refuse boarding.

 - The sea can be a dangerous and ever changing environment and all adventurous activities carry certain risks that cannot be ignored. We do not, therefore, accept any responsibility for any events or incidents occurring outside our control.

 - Full third party liability insurance is provided for all passengers, excluding personal effects, such as cameras, phones, etc. which are carried at the owners risk.

 - No two voyages are the same; we cannot guarantee sightings of any particular species of marine life.

 - All information is subject to sea conditions, seasonal variations and policy changes.

 - We reserve the right on occasion to take photographs for use in our own publicity.

 - If you have any doubts or concerns please contact us and our staff will do their best to answer any questions that you may have at this time.

 - We reserve the right to change or amend these terms and conditions without notice at any time.
